20th Lamp Lighting Ceremony (2025-2026) Batch

Indira College of Nursing successfully conducted the 20th Lamp Lighting Ceremony (Light Fest) for the XX batch of B.Sc. Nursing and DGNM Nursing students on 19th January 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at the IMCH Grand Hall. The ceremony marked the formal initiation of the first-year nursing students into the noble profession of nursing.

The programme commenced with a solemn procession by the first-year B.Sc. Nursing and DGNM students, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu, invoking blessings for the auspicious occasion.

The traditional lamp lighting ceremony was held by the honourable dignitaries, symbolizing the light of knowledge, compassion, and service that guides the nursing profession.

The gathering was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. V. Senbahavalli, M.Sc. (N), Ph.D., Vice Principal (Admin) cum HOD of Community Health Nursing, who emphasized the significance of the lamp lighting ceremony in shaping the professional values and ethical responsibilities of nursing students.

The Florence Nightingale Lamp Lighting was ceremoniously conducted by the dignitaries, followed by the Florence Nightingale Pledge, administered by Prof. Dr. C. Zealous Mary, M.Sc. (N), M.Phil., Ph.D., Principal, Indira School & College of Nursing. The students solemnly pledged to uphold the ethics, values, and responsibilities of the nursing profession.

The felicitation address by Tmt. Indira Raajendran, Managing Director, Indira Group of Educational Institutions, who encouraged the students to pursue excellence and service with compassion and commitment.

The guest was formally introduced by Mrs. S. Abirami, M.Sc. (N), Vice Principal (Academic) cum Professor & HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing. The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Roseline Rachel, M.Sc. (N), Ph.D., Principal, MMM College of Nursing, Chennai (A Unit of Madras Medical Mission), delivered an inspiring guest lecture. In her address, she highlighted the essence of compassionate care, professional integrity, and lifelong learning in nursing. Her words deeply motivated the students to serve society with empathy and excellence.

The Special Address was delivered by Dr. Vasanthamani Dean, Indira Medical College & Hospital. She motivated the students to uphold discipline, dedication, and humanity in their professional journey. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. T. Beula Juliet, M.Sc. (N), HOD of Obstetrical & Gynaecological Nursing, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, students, and organizers for their support and participation.

The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of the 20th Lamp Lighting Ceremony. The event was a memorable and inspiring occasion that instilled professional pride, ethical values, and a sense of responsibility among the budding nursing students.

CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION - 2025

The Christmas Day celebration was joyfully celebrated at Indira College of Nursing on 22nd December 2025 with great enthusiasm and festive spirit. The programme was organized by the students and faculty members to spread the message of love, peace, and harmony.

The celebration began with a prayer, invoking blessings and emphasizing the true spirit of Christmas. The campus was beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree, stars, lights, and colourful ornaments, creating a warm and cheerful atmosphere.

Various cultural programmes were performed by the students, including Christmas carols, group songs, dance performances, and a short skit highlighting the values of sharing, kindness, and compassion taught by Jesus Christ. A special appearance by Santa Claus added joy and excitement, spreading smiles among everyone present.

The Principal and faculty members addressed the gathering and shared inspiring messages about unity, goodwill, and caring for others. They appreciated the efforts of the students in organizing the programme successfully.

The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and refreshments to all. The event was a grand success and helped foster a sense of togetherness, joy, and festive cheer among students and staff.

WORLD DIABETES DAY PROGRAM - 2025

The Department of Community Health Nursing of Indira College of Nursing organized World Diabetes Day program at IMCH on 14.11.2025 at 11 AM. B. Sc. Nursing - VII semester students actively participated in poster presentation and puppet show. Diabetes can impact people across all life stages, including childhood, the reproductive years, working age and older adulthood. The theme of this year’s WHO World Diabetes Day, "Diabetes across life stages,” recognizes that every person living with diabetes should have access to integrated care, supportive environments and policies that promote health, dignity and self-management.

Our beloved Principal Dr. Zealous Mary presided over the program and gave the presidential address. The chief guest Dr. Vasanthamani, MD, DGO, Dean, IMCH gave Chief Guest address and discussed about the recent updates to the public.

The program was conducted at out patient department, nearly 50-60 patients attended the program & benefited. B.Sc. Nursing VII semester students have prepared posters on Care of Diabetes mellitus and gave health education to the people about Diabetes on World Diabetes Day with more enthusiasm and involvement. Puppet show presented by our B. Sc. Nursing VII semester students have gained much attention and focus by all the audience. Everybody appreciated our students for their performance. It gave detailed explanations about care of Diabetes mellitus. This campaign emphasizes the importance of a life-course approach to diabetes prevention, management and overall well-being.

ICON 20th INDUCTION DAY 2025

The Indira College of Nursing (ICON) organized its 20th Induction Programme with great enthusiasm and dignity to welcome the newly admitted students into the Nursing profession. The event was conducted in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, faculty members, students, and invited guests. The event commenced with an Invocation – “Tamizh Thai Vazhthu”, setting a solemn and graceful tone for the ceremony. The programme was formally inaugurated with the Lighting of the Traditional Lamp, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. This was followed by the Inauguration & Welcome Address by Dr. C. Zealous Mary, M.Sc(N), M.Phil, Ph.D., Principal, ICON, who warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the mission and vision of the institution. The Presidential Address was delivered by Thiru. V. G. Raajendran, MLA, Chairman, Indira Group of Institutions, who inspired the students with his motivational words on professional excellence and commitment to service. An Enlightening Address was given by Tmt. Indira Raajendran, Managing Director, Indira Group of Institutions, emphasizing values, discipline, and the importance of compassionate care in the nursing profession. The programme continued with Special Addresses by eminent medical professionals: Dr. Vasanthamani, M.D., D.N.B., Dean, IMCH, and Dr. R. Selva Kumar, M.D., Director, ICAHS. Their encouraging words highlighted the importance of academic excellence, dedication, and the noble responsibilities of nurses in healthcare. Students of ICON and ICAHS presented a cultural programme that enhanced the ceremony with grace and vibrancy. The formal proceedings concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr.P.Kamalakannan, Ph.D., Principal, ICAHS, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty, organizers, and students. The programme ended with the National Anthem, marking a respectful close to the ceremony.

Onam Celebration 2025

The Onam celebration at Indira College of Nursing was held with great enthusiasm and tradition fervor on 26th August 2025. The entire campus was beautifully adorned with pookalam (floral designs), evoking the true spirit of Kerala’s most vibrant festival. The program commenced with a warm welcome dance performed by the students, setting the tone for the day’s festivities. This was followed by the Newsletter inauguration of our college by our esteemed Managing Director, Smt. Indira Rajendran, of Indira College of Nursing. Her presence was a great honor and added prestige to the occasion. Following the inauguration, the Dean and Principal of the College of Nursing addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of cultural traditions and the values symbolized by Onam — unity, prosperity, and togetherness. The cultural events included a graceful performance of Thiruvathira, a traditional dance by the students that captivated the audience with its elegance and rhythm. A variety of Onam-themed games were also organized, bringing joy and laughter among students and faculty alike. The event concluded with a note of thanks and heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to making the celebration a grand success.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2025

The Indira Group of Institutions, Medical College & Hospital, organized the 79th Independence Day celebration with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on 15th August 2025. The event commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the national anthem, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. The program was graced by the presence of the management, faculty members, staff, and students from various departments. As part of the celebrations, students from the College of Nursing actively participated in a variety of cultural events including patriotic songs, dances, skits, and speeches. Their vibrant performances highlighted the spirit of unity, freedom, and national pride, leaving the audience inspired and appreciative. The celebration instilled a sense of patriotism among all attendees and concluded with a vote of thanks and distribution of refreshments.

Pollution Control Awareness Rally -2025

The Pollution Control Awareness Programme was held on 26th July 2025, organized by the Pollution Control Board of Thiruvallur District. The event, titled "Say No to Plastics," focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives. Students from Indira College of Nursing actively participated in the programme. A total of around 100 participants and 4 faculty members attended the event. The activities conducted like presentations about the topic, Poster displays and drawings, Interactive sessions on reducing plastic use, and also the Oath-taking ceremony. Students were actively participated.

SNA ZONAL LEVEL COMPETITION 2025

The Students' Nurses Association (SNA) Zonal Level Competition (TNSNAICON 2025) hosted by Venkateswara Nursing College, Thalambur, Chennai on 18th July 2025.A contingent of students from Indira College of Nursing participated in the events and showcased their talents in various competitions. like face painting, pencil sketching, poster presentation, Mehandi, Extempore, on the spot painting, and Essay writing etc

In poster competition, our students excelled and secured 2nd and 3rd prizes for their creative and informative displays. Our students also demonstrated exceptional artistic skills in the pencil sketching competition and won the 2nd place for their outstanding work. The faculty members accompanying the students expressed satisfaction with the students' performance and appreciated the opportunity for them to showcase their talents. They noted that the competition provided valuable experience and exposure to the students. The students who participated in the competition expressed their gratitude to the college for providing them with the opportunity to participate.

World Population Day Awareness Rally-2025

World Population Day is observed on 11th July 2025 organized by Directorate of family welfare department, Thiruvallur. Indira college of Nursing students attended the rally and created the awareness about global population issues, including overpopulation and environmental sustainability. Nearly 90 students attended the programme. The theme of this year was "Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world, The day highlights the importance of family planning, reproductive health, and addressing challenges of growing populations

Nurses Day Celebration

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) unit of Indira College of Nursing has organized the International Nurses Day Programme on 13.05.2025 between 1.00 pm to 3.00pm. Around 280 B.Sc. (N) and DGNM students were participated in the programme. International Nurses Day 2025 theme “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies,” emphasizes the vital link between nurses' well-being and the strength of global health systems.

Mastery of ceremony was done by B.Sc. (N) final year student Ms.Divya.V, programme started with “Tamil Thai Vaazhthu” followed by welcome address given by Mr.Vasanth.G, B.Sc. (N) final year. The SNA Co-ordinator Mrs.Kalavathi honoured our Dean Dr.Zealous Mary and our principal Dr. Kavitha. Our Dean started the lamp lightning ceremony and followed by our principal has recited the pledge. The Fashion Show competition was conducted among contestants and evaluated by the judges and awarded the winners. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks to all Dignitaries, Guests and all Officials.

NATIONAL SAFE MOTHERHOOD DAY

The Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing Department of Indira College of Nursing has conducted a National safe motherhood day Programme on the theme “Equity in Maternal Healthcare: Leaving No Mother Behind”. Around 200 B.Sc and 20 DGNM students were participated in the programme on 25.04.2025 from 11.00 am to 01.00 pm.

Mastery of ceremony was done by Ms.Niviya Shree, B.Sc(N) Final year. Programme started with “Tamil Thai Vaazhthu” followed by welcome address given by Ms.Mary Teresha, Clinical Instructor, Indira College of Nursing and Welcome dance was performed by B.Sc(N) final year students.

Key note address was given by principal DR.M.Kavitha, Ph.D. The Chief guest introduction was given by Mrs.T.Beula Juliet, Professor, Indira College of Nursing. The chief guest of the program was Dr.Dillibai, Block Medical officer, Kadambathur Block.

Antenatal and post-natal diet exhibition conducted followed by poster presentation was done by the B.Sc(N) final year students on the theme. Total 12 posters were displayed in the competition. Debate was also organised the moderator of the debate was Dr.Visalatchi, Ph.D, Indira College of Education. Role play was performed by DGNM third year students. Poetry and Mehandhi competition were also conducted and prizes was distributed to the winners. The teachers and the students were enthusiastically participated in the programme. Feedback note was given by Dr.C. Zealous Mary, Dean, Indira College of Nursing.

The event was successfully co-ordinated by Mrs.Beula Juliet, Professor, Indira College of Nursing (OBG Department) and Ms.Mary Teresha, Clinical Instructor (OBG Department). Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs.K.Anbarasi, Assistant Professor, Indira College of Nursing. Finally, the program was concluded with National Anthem at 01.00pm.

LAMP LIGHTING REPORT -2024-2025

The lamp lighting ceremony for the 19th batch of BSc Nursing and Diploma nursing (GNM) Students of Indira School and College of Nursing was held on December 09th 2024 in 1st floor Auditorium, Indira College of Nursing at 10.00am. The procession started at 10am by BSc Nursing & DGNM students. The program began with welcome song by Nursing students of college. On this occasion Mrs.Abirami, vice principal and HOD of Medical and Surgical Nursing department welcomed the gathering. After that the felicitation ceremony of the dignitaries was done for Honourable Chairman,Thiru.V.G.Raajendran, MLA, Thiruvallur Dt, Honourable.Managing Director Tmt. Indira Raajendran, by Dr. Zealous Mary Ph.D Dean and Dr. kavitha Ph.D, Principal Indira School and College of Nursing. Honourable Managing Director Tmt.Indira Raajendran, lit the Florence Nightingale lamp and transferred the luminosity to the Nursing Dean, Principal and Nursing faculties. Oath administered by Principal Dr.kavitha PhD followed by dedication song sung by students. Tmt. Indira Raajendran Honourable Managing Director delivered the speech on the various important factors that a student Nurse needs to inculcate in her/his profession and for their motivational speech and being an inspiration to all the student and teaching fraternity in the campus. She emphasized on developing curiosity, humility and passion for caring for the patient.

Dean Dr. Zealous Mary PhD, Indira College of Nursing address the gathering and emphasise the importance of profession and the basic qualities needed for the budding nurses. Based on the changing trends and technology, she said, Nurses should update their knowledge and skills. She stressed the significance of patient safety in the profession.

The Annual Report is presented by Dr.kavitha PhD, Principal, Indira College of Nursing. She discussed the achievements of the students. In addition, she provides information on the activities of student societies, institutional social responsibility and prominent visitors to the College during the academic year.

FRESHERS PARTY 2023

The fresher’s day was organized by TROIZEANS and GLOWING STARTS for our freshers EXORIANZS (2022-2026). This carnival is happened under our principal Dr.Kavitha, PhD, PaDHA and vice principal Mrs.Narmadha (Admin) and Mrs.Abirami (Academic) and guided all the faculties in ICON. And our special guest Mrs.Selvi, Nursing Superintendent of IMCH.

All our ICON students actively participated in this party with their dance, singing, drums playing, exchanging gifts to EXORIANS by TROIZEANS and GLOWING STARTS. All our freshers really felt happy to receive gifts from seniors. And the food were provided to the staffs and also students in B.Sc (N) 1st year and B.Sc (N) 2nd year students, and other students enjoyed the day well as being spectators. The day ended joyfully with the blessings of almighty god and also with the help of our management and faculties in ICON. It was really very memorable for all of us.

INDIRA SCHOOL AND COLLEGE OF NURSING

All our B.Sc (N) students and DGNM students have completed their clinical requirements in Thiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvallur. Every day, they start from our college at 8:30 am using our college bus and reach around 8:45 am for GH posting.

They start doing routine work in GH and, side by side, finish all log book procedures in this platform. They are relieved by 3 pm, and our college vehicle picks up all our students and brings them back to the college, where they report.

18TH INDUCTION DAY

The 18th induction day program was conducted for the B.Sc (N) 1st year & M.Sc (N) 1st year freshers on 09.10.2023. The program was held with the presence of the chairman Thir.V.G.Raajendran, MLA, and our managing director Shri.Indira Raajendran.

The special guest of the program was the dean of Indira Medical College and Hospital Dr.Vasanthamani, and also Vice principal of Indira Medical College and Hospital Dr.Geetha Ponnuswamy. The welcome address was given by the dean of ICON Dr.Zelous Mary, followed by the presidential address given by our MD Shri.Indira Raajendran.

The college annual report was presented by our ICON principal Dr.Kavitha. On the 18th induction day, the toppers' certificates were distributed by our MD to all the DGNM, B.Sc (N), and M.Sc (N) students. Finally, the program ended with a dance performance by B.Sc (N) 2nd semester students and a vote of thanks given by Vice principal (Academic) of ICON Mrs.Abirami, concluding with the national anthem.

ONAM CELEBRATION

The ICON faculties and students are actively participating in this celebration. Our dean Dr.Zelous Mary and the Principal Dr.Kavitha are the chief guests of the Onam celebration. The outfits of all the students and faculties are in traditional wear.

The celebration begins with a welcome address and a welcome dance by a final year student. The DGNM students are involved in the rangoli as a traditional part of Onam. All the students happily share their foods and gifts.

XXX SNA BIENNIAL CONFERENCE TNSNACON 2023

THEME: EMPOWERING NURSING STUDENTS: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

XXX state SNA biennial conference in July 2023 was hosted by Karpaga Vinayagar College of Nursing for a one-day programme (06.07.2023). Our college students actively participated in cultural events such as poster presentation, essay competition, extempore, on-the-spot painting, rangoli, pencil sketching, mono acting, dance competition, hairdo, comedy time, vegetable carving, glazy pot, and mehndi competitions.

Around 15 events were held on the above schedule, and a total of 18 colleges participated in the competition. All the college students showed their talent in contemporary style. The events were successfully coordinated by KVCON.

XXX SNA BIENNIAL CONFERENCE TNSNACON 2023

THEME: EMPOWERING NURSING STUDENTS: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

Our institutions play a vital role in motivating the students to participate in the XXX SNA biennial conference TNSNACON 2023, 11th & 12th August 2023, organized by Trained Nurses Association of India - Tamil Nadu state branch. This state-level event is organized by Dharan College of Nursing, Salem. They are conducting sports and cultural events.

Our college students actively participated in sports events such as 100 meters, Relay, Shot put, Javelin, Tennis, Badminton, etc. One of our students, Mr. Afiz Kaber, won the state-level 2nd award in the 100 meters.

The cultural events also participated in events such as Mr.SNA, Miss.SNA, Quiz, etc. All our students received participant certificates from the TNSNACON 2023. Finally, it ended with the national anthem.

TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATION

The teacher’s day celebration on 05.09.2023 at Indira College of Nursing. All the nursing students joined together and organized events for all our faculties in ICON. Our principal gave a special speech about teachers, and the dean presented a poetry in Tamil about Dr. Radha Krishnan.

On another note, our students posted at the Institute of Mental Health in Ayyanavaram, Chennai-10, also celebrated teacher’s day.

In IMH institution, events for students regarding teacher’s day were conducted, and our college students actively participated in events such as kavithai, English elocution, Tamil elocution, English essay writing, Tamil essay writing, Signing.

In ICON, the students conducted events for teachers, and also the students gave a special performance such as singing, dancing, kavithai, and finally, it ended with cake cutting.

WORLD HEART DAY

THEME: “USE HEART, KNOW HEART”

The World Heart Day was observed by the Medical Surgical Nursing department on 29.09.2023. The chief guest, Dr. Ashwini General Medical from Thiruvallur Government hospital, delivered the message on the theme: “USE HEART, KNOW HEART”.

Our B.Sc (N) 2nd year students actively participated in events such as poster presentation, diet plan.

Our chief guest distributed certificates for the students who participated in the poster presentation and diet plan.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

In Institution of Mental Health celebrated Independence Day on 15.08.2023 at Ayyanavaram. Our B.Sc (N) 3rd year and DGNM 2nd year students participated in events such as Cricket, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Kabadi, Lemon in the spoon. Our college students actively participated in all the events.

In that institution around 20 colleges participated in this event, but our students won the winner of badminton and runner in cricket. And shield for the winner given by HOD of IMH, and all the students get participant certificates.
